To help you to identify which country your euro coins are from, we have provided this and a series of similar pages, each showing the obverse (national) side of each a particular coin denomination (value). This page is for 1 euro coins.
Austria
This coin shows Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the famous Austrian composer, depicting Austria as a land of music.
Belgium
Depicts King Albert II and a monogram – a capital 'A' underneath a crown – among 12 stars, symbolising Europe. The year of issue is part of the design, along with the year the coin was struck.
Finland
The artist Pertti Maekinen created a motif depicting two flying swans for this coin. The designs were taken from his competition entry for a coin to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the independence of Finland.
France
A tree, drawn by artist Joaquim Jiminez, appears on these coins, symbolising life, continuity and growth. It is contained in a hexagon and is surrounded by the motto of the Republic 'Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité'.
Germany
The traditional symbol of German sovereignty, the eagle, surrounded by the stars of Europe, appears on these coins. This motif was designed by Heinz and Sneschana Russewa-Hoyer. None of the German Euros carry the words Germany or Deutschland.
Greece
This coin shows an owl, copied from an ancient Athenian 4 drachma coin (fifth century BC).
Ireland
All Irish euro coins share single national design. They show the Celtic harp, a traditional symbol of Ireland, decorated with the year of issue and the word 'Eire' - the Irish word for Ireland. The harp shown was designed by Jarlath Hayes.
Italy
This coin shows the famous drawing by Leonardo da Vinci, displayed in the gallery of the Academy in Venice, illustrating the ideal proportions of the human body.
Luxembourg
All coins in Luxembourg bear the profile of His Royal Highness the Grand Duke Henri. They bear the year of issue and the word 'Luxembourg' written in Luxembourgish ('Letzebuerg').
Monaco
The center of the coin depicts the right profiles of LL. AA. SS. The Sovereign Prince and The Hereditary Prince Albert. Around the perimeter of each coin the inscription MONACO is printed on the top, the year and the hallmark on the bottom, and twelve stars divided between the right and left sides.
Netherlands
Queen Beatrix is shown in profile and the words 'Beatrix Queen of The Netherlands' are written around the circumference of the coins.
Portugal
Castles and Portuguese Coats of Arms are incorporated in the midst of the European stars symbolising 'dialogue ... the exchange of values and the dynamics of the building of Europe'. In the centre is a Royal Seal of 1144.
San Marino
The official coat-of-arms of the Republic of San Marino.
All the obverse designs are from sketches by Frantisek Chochola, and engraved by Ettore Lorenzo Frapiccini.
Spain
This shows a portrait of King Juan Carlos 1 de Borbon y Borbon, King of Spain.
Vatican

We don't have 1 & 2 cent coins though. As far as prices go people would ask for, say, 2euro 50. No need to say cent. If it was less than a euro then they'd ask for 25cent. We know they mean eurocents. Luxembourg - 2 euros 2012 (10 years of euro banknotes and coins) EUR 4.40. Netherlands - 1 euro 2006 (Queen Beatrix in profile) EUR 2.65. Ireland - 50 cents 2010 (Celtic Harp) EUR 2.45. Belgium - 2 euros 2010 (Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union) EUR 3.50. Italy - 2 euros 2010 (Portrait of Raphael of Dante Alighieri) EUR 5.75. The 1 euro cent coin (€0.01) has a value of one hundredth of a euro and is composed of copper -covered steel. The coins of every Euro country have a common reverse and each has a country-specific (national) obverse. The coin has been used since 2002 and was not redesigned in 2007 as was the case with the higher-value coins. The piece of 1 euro cent has a diameter of 16.25mm and weighs 2.3g. The word ‘Europe’ is inscripted inside the globe pictured on the copper plated steel coin. Do you have a 1 cent Euro coin? Here's how to exchange it for cash.
